How to Fundraise
The #1 reason people don’t give is because they are not asked. Involve your friends, family and colleagues in your fundraising efforts and you will reach your goal in no time!
Eight steps to reach your goal of $1000
Step 1: Start by supporting yourself = $50
Step 2: Ask five family members to contribute $50 each = $250
Step 3: Ask ten friends to support you at $25 each = $250
Step 4: Ask five colleagues to donate $20 each = $100
Step 5: Ask four neighbours to donate $20 each = $80
Step 6: Ask your boss for a company contribution = $50
Step 7: Ask your doctor, dentist, dry cleaner etc. to donate $20 = $60
Step 8: Send an email to everyone in your address book = $160
Total = $1000
MORE FUNDRAISING TIPS
Send an email to everyone in your address book and share info on your Facebook & Twitter. Make use of the email template that you can personalize when you register for Walk A Mile; you will be able to send this out to your contacts from our website once your registration is complete.
Let family, friends and colleagues know what you are doing and why you’re taking part in this event. Share your passion. If they don’t respond, email them again – they may just need a reminder.
Be creative and ask for help!
Week one Pool the money you would have spent on purchasing beverages that week.
Week two Arrange a potluck lunch and pool the money you would have spent on lunch for that day.
Week three Movie night at home! Pool the money you would have spent to go out to the cinema that night.
Week four Offer to pick up and take bottles in for recycling, and put the proceeds towards your goal.
Check with your company to see if they offer matching gifts. Ask your boss for a company contribution or organize a staff fundraising event. Examples?
* The Rimrock Resort Hotel managers organize an annual Dunk Tank event which asks staff to pull money and rewards them by letting them flush their bosses!
* The Fairmont Banff Springs team organizes a staff event and asks colleagues to contribute to their fundraising goal.
Ask companies you deal with to sponsor you or to put up a poster at their business and run a fundraising campaign for you.
Ask businesses you frequent for a donation (doctor, dentist, dry cleaners, etc.).
Challenge your teammates for the highest fundraising goal. Or, challenge a competing business to see if you can beat them at fundraising!
